Phillip Lovatt is a Partner in Wellington Legal Advisors' Insurance & Risk Management team and one of Sydney's most experienced insurance litigators, known for his confident and proactive approach in securing the best outcomes for clients facing complex and high-value claims. Phil specialises in defending professional indemnity claims across a wide range of disciplines — including solicitors, accountants, engineers, and financial advisers — and advises on Directors & Officers liability, property damage, business interruption, and a broad range of commercial insurance matters. He has conducted trials in the Supreme Court, Court of Appeal, and Federal Court, and has handled some of Australia's most technically demanding insurance disputes, including claims involving gas turbine breakdown, fire damage, petroleum remediation, and major event cancellations. Phil has been a panel solicitor for Law Mutual (WA) for over a decade and regularly delivers risk management presentations to insured professionals. He is a published author and speaker on topics including the Insurance Contracts Act, proportionate liability, and contractual interpretation.
